Job Description:

Gidi Burger is looking for a hardworking and motivated Kitchen Assistant to join our our growing team. As a Kitchen Assistant, you will play an essential role in maintaining the efficiency of the kitchen by assisting with food preparation, cleaning, and ensuring that all kitchen operations run smoothly. You will be responsible for preparing ingredients, maintaining hygiene standards, and supporting the cook and other staff as needed. The ideal candidate must be reliable, able to work well under pressure while maintaining the highest food safety standards, and have a passion for working in the food service industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning ingredients.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and ensuring all kitchen areas are kept tidy.
  • Assist cooks with basic cooking tasks as required, such as preparing ingredients or managing the prep area.
  • Ensure food safety standards are followed at all times, including proper storage and labeling of food items.
  • Help with receiving and storing deliveries and maintaining kitchen inventory.
  • Use kitchen tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Work alongside kitchen staff to ensure timely and smooth operations during busy periods.
  • Interact with the POS system to view and understand electronic orders from the front-of-house staff.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience: Previous kitchen experience is a plus but not required. We will provide training for the right candidate.
  • Location: Applicants must live within a 5-30minute commute to our location (i.e reside within Surulere and its environs).
  • Language: Must be able to speak, write, and understand good English.
  • Computer Literacy: Basic familiarity with kitchen display systems or POS systems is preferred (training will be provided).
  • Availability: Must be able to work weekends and public holidays. The role requires alternating daily shifts, 6 days a week, with one day off.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy items, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Medical Testing: Applicants will be required to undergo periodic medical tests, including a food handler’s test, as part of our commitment to health and safety standards.
  • Identification: Must have a NIN Slip.
  • Candidates should possess a minimum of SSCE / GCE / NECO qualification.
  • Must have excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Work Schedule:

  • Shift Pattern: Alternating shifts (e.g., morning, evening and straight shifts).
  • Work Week: 6 days a week, with 1 day off.
  • Weekend/Public Holiday Work: Required.
